Compression Shorts Are An Essential Piece Of Activewear

By Gloree R. Mclear

Those engaged in high activity sports will find that compression shorts are an important piece of activewear. These sports undergarments supply several benefits to the wearers, be they pro athlete or gym rat. Compression shorts are made of spandex material because it is stretchy, lightweight and allows for formfitting clothing. Obviously, compression shorts are rapidly replacing the use of jockstraps in the sports industry. Athletes like that the shorts are more stylish, easier to wear and provide more coverage than the previously mentioned jockstraps. Most people have heard of compression shorts as spandex shorts that are found in many stores. The fashionable spandex short sold in clothing stores is slightly different from compression shorts.

One of the main benefits of compression shorts is that they keep the thigh muscles warm, which helps to improve athletic performance. It is thought that these garments help prevent muscle strain during a performance. These also provide compression and help keep everything in place. They can also be used by expectant mothers to support the upper and lower abdominal muscles in pregnancy. Pregnant women may also wear these after pregnancy to help with healing and recovery. Compression shorts for sports also sometimes, come with padding on the thigh area to protect the wearer. Shorts with padding are typically seen in sports like, baseball that require a lot of sliding on the ground.

Compression shorts have also been shown to reduce friction and chafing. These are perfect to use in sports where the athlete does a lot of running. Spandex allows for a great deal more movement without worrying about friction or heat buildup. The friction burns and rashes that an athlete can get from an active game are greatly reduced. However, the material used is generally thicker than the thin spandex found in spandex shorts.

Women athletes are also finding this sports apparel to be crucial to their sport. Female players in sports where uniforms are more revealing such as, cheerleading, will habitually wear compression shorts out of modesty. In tennis, these undergarments are so commonly used that manufacturers are selling compression shorts with ball pockets in them.

If you need activewear for high-energy sports, consider compression shorts. Baseball, softball, football, tennis, hockey and even running are all sports where compression gear is helpful. They supply compression, ease of movement, coverage and reduce friction and chafing. Any sport you are engaged in, you may be able to find shorts specifically created for that field.
